Freeride Junkie - Delamere Forest, Cheshire

We took advantage of the good weather at the weekend and headed off to Delamere Forest on Saturday. Hadn't been to Delamere for about 12 months so was really looking forward to seeing how things were looking over there as it had always been a favourite spot of mine.
First off we checked out a few of the hits near the road as a warm up. After the usual first few lame 'not enough speed and commitment' type run ins we were clearing the first step down and so moved onto the dual course. On the way over to the dual track we tried to find a blow down that we turned into a decent length 3ft high log ride with a nice drop off to transition. But it had been cut up and moved sometime in the last 12 months by the forestry commission. Whilst on our search though we bumped into a dude that we met on a street session in Manchester in the summer. He was there with his shovel doing a bit of trail maintenance.
Anyway, the dual course hadn't changed much and we spent a bit of time playing on the last few gap jumps which are still pretty sweet. After this we went and checked out the road gap and found that another one had been built that was much bigger....as we were on our hard tails though we didn't entertain these (that's our excuse anyway). Just down the track from the road gaps there used to be another blow down that completely blocked the track. Last year I built a nice little hip jump over the tree trunk using the upturned base and roots of the tree as a take off and landing. As suspected the tree had been cut up but the base and about 4ft of the trunk were still there. So I grabbed my mates shovel, cleared the landing area and built up a take off trannie and it was back in action.
After playing on the new blow down hip for a bit we moved over to the skills area and sessioned the dirt box jump for a bit. A log had been added to the lip of this which gave you nice shape in the air...just don't hit too fast as it does tend to nose dive you and the landing ramp soon disappears under you if your not careful! This happened to one unlucky dude and he had to be air lifted out of the place !
Since we last visited Delamere the small 5 pack of dirt jumps have been knocked down which is a shame as although they were a bit hit and miss due to uneven spacing and gap lengths they were great fun. The 4X course however is pretty much the same and by late afternoon it had turned into a bit of a jam session there. Which was pretty cool.
After a good session on the 4X we were now on our last legs and with just enough energy left to get us and our single speeds back up the fire road to the car we left. We will be back though…very soon!
