Rochdale Freeride Session

After returning from our snowboarding trip I was really looking forward to getting over to the Rochdale build area, now known as 'The Stoneyard', to check out both the 12ft gap step down that we built and also the new 16ft gap that some local lads (who were also there) had built.
Unfortunately my big bike was 'off the dirt' as the Atom Lab freewheel body has gone and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get hold of a replacement! Anyway, not wanting to miss out I took my DMR Transition street bike complete with slick Hookworm tyres and single speed to boot. This pretty much meant that the 16ft gap was out of the question for me. The rest off the stuff flowed pretty nice though on the hardtail...especially our newly completed 12 ft gapper. Having said that the 'cliff drop' wasn't attempted but I'm sure it's do-able once the landing is smoothed out?
Anyway, we had a good look at the 16 footer and although the builders had ridden it a number of times it had a pretty short landing transition. One of the builders did over shoot the landing and nose dived to flat going head first into the dirt! With this in mind we got to work, with one of the original builders that was there, on lengthening the landing transition. As usual, it will take a couple of weeks for it to settle ready for more dirt and then soon after it will be our turn to give it a go...hopefully my big bike will be fixed by then...
Whilst we were hard at work building in Rochdale a few of the other guys were over at Gisburn checking out the new build work there. Apparently there's even more new stuff on the dh trails since our last visit a few weeks ago...Here's a little teaser of what's in store North Shore wise (apologies for the low res phone pic). FRJ
