Gisburn Forest Trip

Gisburn Double

Managed to get that trip up to Gisburn Forest on Saturday that I spoke about.  No plans had been made with the FRJ crew so I went up there with one of my XC  mates to see what the new stuff was like.   As I had just replaced the freehub body on my Cove Stiffee I thought I would take it for a test run.  We hit the red route from the car park as a way of getting to the freeride/dh stuff and boy was it boring!  It's just fire roads...anyway I managed to my hands on an unofficial map from one of my kayaking mates which shows were all the new building work is being done so hopefully the new red route will be unveiled in the not to distant future.

Anyway, back to what we came for...the freeride/dh stuff.  We eventually found the point were the old, but now new, dh trail crosses the fireroad. First thing to check out was the first double just to the left of the fire road.  I'd seen a video of the Singletrack boys hitting this jump so was surprised to see that there a decent sized gap there (I had wrongly assumed that ST were out and out XC boys).

Strangely at 1pm on a dry saturday afternoon there was no one else about so I had the unenviable task of deciding what speed to hit this thing at on my hardtail.  Luckily I got it right first time and then hit it a few more times before getting a flat...I hadn't been on my Cove for a while and hadn't checked the tyre pressure..doh .  While fixing the flat we bumped into a couple of locals and so ran a few lines with them.  One of the guys, Stevo (http://steerider.pinkbike.com), had a helmet cam with him so took a bit of footage of me hitting the jump...even managed to get a cheeky no footer in...

Gisburn no footer

Anyway, that's probably enough pros for now...just need to say though that the work on the dh trails is pretty impressive with hardcore laid down before and after all the jumps..there's about 4 gap jumps and a number of drops and berms to dial so it will keep you entertained for the day.  There's nothing BIG there (that I saw) but it's all great fun...FRJ
