Snowboarding in the Lakes & Cam McCaul NWD Gorge Gap
Friday, 23 January 2009

I had an awesome day on Wednesday. Got up to the Lakes to take advantage of all the snow they've been having up there. Most people don't know this but there is a ski tow high up on the fells near Helvellyn. It's about an hours steep hike with your snowboard on your back to get to it but it's usually worth the effort. It was snowing all the way up and also blowing a blizzard with full white out conditions at some points. Once up there though there was about 2 foot of snow to play with and drifts of 3ft plus...it was some of the best conditions I've seen up there. The wind had even created a 5ft vert drop off just next to the bottom of the tow which was a great end to each run. After a great days boarding I got the last tow up at 3.30pm and then enjoyed a 15 minute powder descent over the back of the mountain (I think 883 metre counts as a mountain) right back down to he valley bottom. Happy days...

Anyway, back to freeriding on two wheels...Here's a bit of cool footage of Cam McCaul filming for the latest New World Disorder. Showboat-tastic...
Hopefully I should be out building myself on Monday (what's the point of working for yourself if you can't take days off?). My mate Paul has found a potential road gap spot that we are going to suss out and hopefully get to work on...will keep you posted on that one...
