Delamere Wednesday

To help us get over the January blues a couple of us took the day off on Wednesday and decided to check out Delamere forest to see if there had been any changes since our last visit back in September.
It had been dry for a couple of days now so although we knew there would be a wet vibe to the day we thought some of the areas may have dried out a bit. That's the good thing about Delamere...no matter how wet it's been there is always something to be found that is playable.
First stop off of the day was at the road gap. We have never done the road before and as we were on our hardtails we weren't about to start today. We did have a good look at it though and also took a few run ins to it and figured we may do it on our big bikes. Luckily we bumped into some other dudes at the road gap and one of them nailed it so we had an idea of what speed was required. This is definitely on the list for this summer...
Just round the corner from the road gap was the hip jump I built last year over a fallen tree. The take off transition needed a bit of a repair so we got to work and built it up again. The landing transition didn't need much work as the winter weather had killed off all the vegetation so it was good to go. We spent about half an hour sessioning this jump and in the end it bedded in pretty good.
Next we hit the 'skills area', that's the health and safety friendly way of saying dh/4x/dirt jump area. This area was pretty wet but a few of the lines were runnable. We had a good session on the hip jump half way down the 4x course and a play on a nicely shaped bombhole which was perfect for practicing 180s and 360 tire taps. There were also a couple of new things that had been built. For instance the double next to the hip on the 4x course had been built up so that you could actually clear it now. There were also a few new unofficial lines that we spied which looked interseting...we'll definately be checking these out on our next visit.
Anyway, it's our weekly street session tonight so I need to go and change the tires on my street bike from nobblies to the hookworms...must also change the freewheel as on my Stiffee as well...hmm, got a couple of days yet before I need it though...will do it manyana...
