Freeride Junkie - Okehampton Northshore Trails
Thursday, 02 October 2008
Two of the Freeride Junkie crew, Stu and AJ, headed down to cornwall last weekend for a mate's stag do, with the majority of the lads planning a surf trip. They had other plans. Stu's account of the trip is below.
'You can't drive all that way and not visit Okehampton and/or The Track! Unfortunately we only had time to hit one and Okehampton was closer. We printed a trail map from the Okehampton riders website and decided to hit the trails first. Unfortunately we struggled to find some of them, but what we did find had a few hits on it. Main problem though was the amount dog shit covering the place! Because of this we bailed the trails after a while and headed to the Northshore area.
To be honest I wasn't expecting great things, but how wrong I was! As you follow the trail a lower section of Shore leads you into the main area with seesaws, drops and a wall ride. From here there are a number of lines that drop down the hill. These were where it's at. There's a big drop down leading to a step up and a bit of cork screw. A dragon's back section that leads to either a skinny section with a sideways moving seesaw or a longer flowing line with seesaw and step down. We hit the lot (only sideways seesaw catching us out - locals reckon it's never been cleaned!) and had an amazing days riding in the sun followed by many beers back in Bude!'
I called in at Okehampton northshore myself 12 months ago on the way down to Cornwall on a surf trip. Unfortunately just had the surfboards with us so no riding was done but it did look sweet as!! I would deffinately recomend anyone that lives within a couple hours drive of it to check it out.
