Manchester Street Session 10/2/09

Four of the FRJ crew made it out for the usual Tuesday night street session in Manchester last night.  It was a pretty mellow night.  We started off on a slightly off vert wall ride which BMX John was loving.  We then moved onto Piccadilly Gardens for a play on the steps there - trying to get our roll backs dialed.  After that, on our way to the next spot,  we were riding past a huge empty tarmac car park when we noticed a couple of pallets, a few bricks and two large chipboards lying there.  So what do you do?  You build a sweet ass gap jump right...

The setup was perfect...the car park was sloping downhill and had a 2ft wide kerb across the middle.  So, we put one one pallet resting on the downside kerb and put the other pallet 7ft higher up the slope resting on the bricks making it a couple feet high.  Then we put the large chipboards on top of each pallet making perfect take off and landing transitions.  Then all we had to do was take a few runs ins and then hit it!  Which we did and found it to be a super smooth double.  So we pretty much just sessioned that for the rest off the night.  Even BMX John gave it a go...lucky for him we had extended the chipboard half a foot off the top of the pallet on the landing ramp as he cased it big time and put a big hole through it..if he had cased the solid pallet it could have been very messy!

It's pretty crazy really you seem to spend forever trying to find suitable spots for building doubles in your local woods and then there's the time spent building and maintaining them...and in 10 minutes we had built a perfect gap jump.  The only problem is it's in a busy daytime car park in the centre of Manchester...ah well...all we could do then was take it down and put the bits back were we found them and hope they are still there next time we're passing...
